Abstract

1,150,892. Relieving gears. CHARLES CHURCHILL Ltd. 8 Sept., 1967 [10 June, 1966], No. 25993/66. Heading B3K. [Also in Division F2] In a method of making rack teeth which are relieved at the ends, teeth are initially formed on a rack 10 by a tool 14 mounted on a rotary bar 15, the bar 15 being horizontally disposed and the rack 10 being traversed from left to right as seen in Fig. 1. The teeth are then subjected to a shaving operation, the bar 15 first being tilted by raising a tailstock 17, and the rack 10 being lifted so that its axis coincides with the axis of tool 14, and the rack 10 then traversed again from left to right.
