Circulating or passing fluids through materials. -Relates to hank-dyeing machines, washing-off machines, &c. of the kind in which the dye or other liquor is caused to circulate from a circulating chamber under or over a division board and through spaces between circulating-boards into a vat in which the material is placed, and consists chiefly in means for removing the sediment which collects in the material during the dyeing operation. After the dyeing operation, fresh water is supplied to the vat A, Fig. 1, through apertures in a transverse pipe d, which is disposed slightly above the level of the circulating-boards b at the end of the vat remote from the circulating-chamber B; the prcpellers or other circulating-device being in action, any sediment that rises to the surface is drawn off with the overflow by pipes E passing through the outer wall of the circufating- chamber adjacent the top of the division board a. In place of the pipes E, a transverse trough or a pipe having a slit along its upper surface may be employed, disposed in the chamber B. The lid C or the vat, Fig. 5, from which the hank frame F is suspended, also carries spraying-pipes G,'which are connected by a flexible pipe to a water supply, so that the hanks may be sprayed with fresh water, either in the vat or after they have been lifted clear.
