Abstract
1,150,796. Decorative article. E. SCHUMM. 29 June, 1967 [20 July, 1966], No. 30051/67. Heading B6G. [Also in Division El] Decorative articles comprise a plurality of similar interchangeable decorative components and means permitting the decorative components to be readily connected to or separated from one another. The decorative components consist each of a regular polygonal frame surrounding openwork attached to the frame at a plurality of attachment points which are equally spaced from the respective nearest corners of the frame. The decorative components may be produced in one operation from synthetic plastics material, e.g. extruded from black synthetic plastics material so that a decorative component gives the impression of wrought iron work. From the decorative components it is possible to produce flat structures such as lattices in glass doors, floral walls, partitions for rooms, ornamentation in staircases, radiator screens, balcony screens and designs of wardrobe rear walls and to produce three-dimensional objects such as decorative columns in gardens, flower banks, umbrella stands. The decorative parts form various geometric figures and may consist of rods, some of which are curved with rectangular crosssection. One diagonal of the rods of the decorative parts may lie in one plane centrally to all frame parts with the other diagonal perpendicular thereto. The frame parts may consist of strips which in cross-section comprise a rectangle with attached isosceles triangle, the apex of which is directed inwards. The decorative components may be connected with one another by elastic retaining clips which grip each around at least two frame parts pertaining to different decorative components. The clips can be approximately C-shaped in cross-section (Fig. 5, not shown), end tabs being provided with an obliquity and the internal cross-section corresponding approximately to the crosssection of two frame parts lying against one another. The clips can then be pressed on easily. A foot part can adjoin the base of the C-profile on the side line opposite the transverse webs so that the article of decoration can be supported thereon on a flat surface. For the connection of two decorative components perpendicular to one another the clip forms in cross-section a hollow, right-angled, isosceles triangle on the sides of which there are provided protuberances with end tabs (Fig. 7, not shown). For the connection of three or four decorative components at right angles to one another a hollow square is used from the corners of which again end tabs emerge (Fig. 9, not shown). For a flat connection of two or more decorative elements the clip may be formed as a rosette consisting of two identical parts, each part comprising two tubular protuberances and two peg-shaped protuberances, the diameters of which are adapted to one another (Figs. 11 and 12, not shown). The two parts enclose the frame parts of different decorative components and are simply pushed into one another. The decorative article may be fastened to walls by providing a shanked clip clampable firmly to a frame part, the shank of which is insertable into a retaining eye secured on the wall (Fig. 23, not shown). The shanked clip can be made in two parts of appropriate material held together by means of screws (Fig. 18, not shown). In Fig. 1, a decorative component 1 consists of a square frame 2 in the inner space of which there are accommodated decorative parts 3 formed from rods 4 having a square cross-section. The rods 4 are arranged so that one diagonal 5 (Fig. 2) is perpendicular to a central plane 6 through the frame parts 7 and the other diagonal edge lies in this plane 6. The frame parts 7 consist of webs which in cross-section produce a rectangle 11 with an attached isosceles triangle 12. In one embodiment (Fig. 22, not shown) a retaining eye is secured on a frame within the panes of a double window and is provided with a slot into which the decorative article can be hooked parallel with the panes by means of a shanked clip. The decorative article can also be held firmly after assembly on a surface, for example on the ground, with fastening pegs (Fig. 24, not shown).
