Abstract
1,150,738. Electric current collectors; vehicle wheels and tyres. MERZ & McLELLAN SERVICES Ltd. 11 Aug., 1966 [24 Aug., 1965], No. 36294/65. Headings B7C and B7L. An electric current collector for electric traction systems, comprises a plurality of rigid contact segments 17 disposed around the periphery of a pneumatic tyre 15 on a wheel disc 21. The latter is carried by the flange 22 of a hub 23 supported by bearings 12 on a stationary shaft 11, mountable on a vehicle. The segments have stems 18 connectible by conductors 19 inside the tyre which conductors are connected by conductors 20 to the disc 21. Mounted on the flange 22 is a flat slip ring 24 engaged by collector brushes 26 slidable in tubular guides 28 by linkages and springs 29, 30, 31, mounted on brackets 27 in a stationary casing 25. The collector wheel engages a supply conductor to roll therealong with little friction. In a modification, the contact segment stems do not extend completely through the tyre wall and the segments are connected together externally of the tyre.
