Abstract

1,150,428. Pads; brushes. S. M. PECK and E. NADLER. 13 June, 1966 [27 Aug., 1965], No. 26181/66. Headings A4F and A4K. In a method of producing a pad cleaner, a cylindrical pad of compressible material is placed on the central area 14 of a spider from which arms (12) radiate and the arms are bent upwardly to grip the pad and squeeze it into a fluted shape 20. The arms (12) are bonded or sealed together either at their ends or throughout their lengths to form a rigid handle 25. The spider is stamped, die cut or moulded from sheet material, which may be rigid plastic. The pads are of compressible cellular, fibrous or foam material and may be used for massaging the teeth and gums or for applying shoe polish. Expandable cellular cellulose acetate pads may be impregnated with dentifrice and thrown away after single use. Water soluble hydroxy ethyl cellulose or polyvinyl alcohol pads may be impregnated with detergent and dissolved while being used to clean closets. A modified shape and arrangements of pad are disclosed (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown). Polystyrene or polyurethane foam may, alternatively, be used.
