Abstract
1,150,275. Shuttleless looms. NUOVO PIGNONE S.p.A. 13 May, 1966 [20 May, 1965], No. 21473/66. Heading D1E. A weft inserter for carrying a weft thread from a bobbin at one side of a loom to the centre of the shed where it is transferred to a carrier inserted from the other side comprises Figs. 1 and 3, hollow body housing control and gripping members for the weft and having at its forward end a tongue 4 formed from the top wall and pointed side pieces 2, 3 curving upwardly and rearwardly to a level above the tongue 4. The weft is received below the tongue 4 and in slots 5. 6 in the side pieces and is clamped by gripping feet 7, 8 onto surfaces on the inner faces of the side pieces 2, 3. The feet 7, 8 are pivoted at 11 and acted upon by springs 12, 13 to grip the weft thread and by a lever 41 to release this grip when a tail portion 16 thereof is depressed at the start of the pick and the weft is presented by a selector to the inserter. At this stage also the weft is cut where it is attached to the fabric. The weft receiver, Figs. 8 and 9, which takes over the weft from the inserter at the centre of the shed comprises a pointed guard member 37 connected to a member 23 slotted at 29 to receive a pivoted blade 24. This blade has a hook portion 31 at its front end and side projections seating on the sides of the slot 29 under the pressure of a spring 33. The weft between the side pieces 2, 3 of the inserter is engaged by the hook 31, pulled under the spring-loaded seating projections thereof and disengaged from the inserter. The weft is then drawn through the other half of the shed where it is released on the rear end 32 of blade 24 being engaged by a cam.
