Abstract

1,150,271. Boots. GEBR. BIEDERMANN K.G. 12 April, 1966 [7 May, 1965], No. 15935/66. Heading A3B. In the manufacture of multi-layer shoe parts a concave mould 3 with a leather vamp held thereon by suction is first displaced along its longitudinal axis to a position below a press head 4, which is heated if a thermoplastic toe cap is to be used, and in which a switch pin 20 contacts a switch 22 and initiates a fluid operated piston and cylinder system. If a non-thermoplastic toe cap is to be used the vamp is coated with adhesive before the mould is moved under the press head. A piston 10 lowers a suction holder 5 causing a suction tube 29 to engage a toe cap 32 on a stack 31. The piston is retracted and a piston 13 moves the suction holder axially until it enters a bore 23 in the press head, the suction tube extending through an opening (25), Fig. 2 (not shown). The head 4 together with the suction holder is lowered by a piston 9 and the toe cap, preheated if it is thermoplastic, is forced off the tube 29 and into adhesive engagement with the vamp in the mould. A coupling 27 including a vertical slot 33 in which a shaft 28 of the holder 5 is vertically displaceable accommodates the vertical movement of the holder 5. The press head 4, holder 5 and mould 3 are returned to their starting positions, the vamp with the toe cap secured thereto is sprayed with adhesive by a spray gun 15 and a lining leather is applied to the adhesive surface. The mould 3 is moved under the press head which is lowered to press the components together. The head 4 is lifted and the mould returns to its starting position. It is possible to substitute hand or foot actuated operating means for at least some of the movements. Multilayer shoe parts other than fronts may be manufactured in suitably shaped moulds.
