Abstract

1,150,195. Synchronous motors. W. KOHLHAGEN. 23 May, 1967, No. 23982/67. Heading H2A. In a synchronous motor 10 comprising a field 12 having a coil 28 exciting when energized field polepieces 30, 32 arranged circularly about an axis x-x on which is disposed the fixed shaft 38 of a dead-shaft rotor mount, the rotor 14 comprises a permanent magnet e.g. of brittle "high H ' material having poles (34), Fig. 1, a central aperture 40 turnably receiving the cylindrical surface of bushing 36 having a bearing recess 37 rotatably received on the shaft 38, and a rigid shoulder in the path of but having play from a corresponding shoulder on the bushing whereby to provide a coupling having a solid drive at either end of a limited range of free relative rotational movement. This permits the rotor, on starting, to vibrate free of its load. As shown, the shoulders comprise registering grooves and tongues 46, 44, and the bushing, of plastics material, has an integral drive pinion 39 and is staked at 56, with slight axial freedom, to the rotor 14.
