Abstract
1,149,722. Tyre-building apparatus. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 7 June, 1966 [11 June, 1965], No. 25301/66. Addition to 1,149,723. Heading B7C. A transfer ring 10 which holds by suction a radially-expanded tyre tread and/or breaker component comprises circumferentially-spaced double-acting piston-cylinders 16, 17 for pressing related circumferentially-spaced parts of the component into contact with the carcass to prevent relative axial displacement. In use the component is expanded by its building former (12) (Fig. 1, not shown) into sealing contact with the ring 10, the ring is moved axially to surround the shaped carcass 13, and the pistons 16 are moved radially inwardly. Suction is released to permit contraction of the component, which is then pressed completely into contact with the carcass. The ring 10 is held centred with the carcass 13 and former (12) respectively by engagement of pivoted pawls 43, (27) with collars 25 on the ring carrier.
