Abstract

1,149,444. Moving band filter. HYDROMATION ENG. CO. 22 Nov., 1967 [24 Dec., 1966], No. 53059/67. Heading B1D. The upper run of an endless conveyor, which carries a filter band, extends through a chamber which it enters and leaves under end doors 32, which are periodically raised to enable the band to be moved on and then lowered to seal the band against a backing member 88. In Fig. 3, the door is pivotable about point 72 by jack 68 and carries an inflatable seal 84 which is operated in sequence with the door. The conveyor comprises two endless chains 28 between which is a mesh band (34), which may constitute the filter band or may support a section of disposable paper filter medium. The band may be cleaned by reverse flow of air or steam or by a scraper. The chains have some flat links (86) (Figs. 2, 4, not shown) and abutments (90) which cooperate with a switch (92) to ensure that these links are located beneath the doors whenever the conveyor is stopped. Movement and inflation of seals 84 are controlled by timer or by a pressure switch responding to clogging of the band within the chamber. Band (34) is supported by bars (22) extending along the chamber. In Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) the end doors slide vertically and the seals are not inflatable. The filter band (100) is endless and is driven directly by its supporting rollers (102, 104) without chains.
