Abstract

1,149,293. Coloured polyesters. ALPINE CHEMISCHE A.G. 1 March, 1967, No. 9776/67. Addition to 1,136,148. Heading C3R. [Also in Division C4] Coloured copolyesters are made by polycondensing (a) one or more aliphatic or aromatic dicarboxylic acids or their ester-forming derivatives, (b) one or more phthalocyanine dicarboxylic acids or their ester-forming derivatives in an amount up to 10 mole per cent based on (a), and (c) one or more aliphatic or alicyclic dihydric alcohols. The reaction mixture may also include (d) one or more bis-glycol ethers of dihydric phenols. Specified reactants are:-for (a)-adipic, sebacic, terephthalic, isophthalic, naphthalene-2: 6-dicarboxylic and diphenyldicarboxylic acids and their alkyl esters; for (b) metal free phthalocyanine dicarboxylic acids and those containing a central Cu, Mg, Zn, Cd, Al, Ti, Fe, Co or Ni atom as well as alkyl and glycol esters of these acids; for (c)-ethylene glycol, neopentylene glycol, diethylene glycol. polyethylene glycols and 1: 4-cyclohexanedimethanol; for (d) compounds of formula where R<SP>2</SP> is a direct linkage or the group -CH 2 -CH 2 -, -O-, -S-, -SO 2 -, -CO- or -NX- (X being hydrogen or substituted or unsubstituted alkyl), a is 1 to 10 and the rings A and B may be substituted. Examples describe the preparation of polyesters from (1) and (2) dimethyl terephthalate, copper phthalocyanine dicarboxylic acid diglycol ester and ethylene glycol; (3) dimethyl terephthalate, dimethyl isophthalate, phthalocyanine dicarboxylic acid diglycol ester and ethylene glycol; (4) dimethyl terephthalate, cobalt phthalocyanine dicarboxylic acid diglycol ester, ethylene glycol and the bis-glycol ether of bisphenol A; (5) dimethyl terephthalate, phthalocyanine dicarboxylic acid diglycol ester and 1: 4-cyclohexanedimethanol.
