Abstract

1,149,046. Control circuit. COCHRAN & CO., ANNAN Ltd. Oct.17, 1967 [Oct.17 1966], No.46393/66. Headings G1A and G1U. [Also in Divisions H2 and H3] A control circuit comprises a bridge arrangement of potentiometers 17, 18, the first being manually settable, associated with transistors 21, 22, connected back-to-back across opposite terminals of the bridge, such that unbalance of the bridge due to movement of either wiper of the potentiometers causes one or other of these transistors to conduct and energize a lamp 13 or 14 associated with a corresponding radiation responsive silicon controlled rectifier 24 or 23 which is switched on to connect a supply of current to a load circuit 31. The load can comprise the field windings 28, 29 of an A.C. induction motor 30 which is caused to move the wiper of potentiometer 18 in the required direction to rebalance the bridge. The control circuit includes amplifying transistors 12 and protective resistors 15, 16. The SCR's are connected in respective bridge networks 26, 25 to act as single pole A.C. switches. The motor 30 may be of the squirrel cage type and is provided with limit switches 36, 37. Capacitors 33, 34 bring the power factor of the inductors 28, 29 down to unity. Each lamp and its associated SCR are mounted in opaque tubes. Complete electrical isolation between control and load circuits is obtained by use of the radiation link, unlike the arrangement described in Specification 1,105, 874.
