Headings B1D and BIT [Also in Division Dl] A method of producing a filter structure comprises the steps of sandwiching between two sheets of malleable filter material f + g Fig. 6 an interlayer of a sheet of resilient material, h, alternately folding the sandwich to produce in the sandwich a series of mutually identical substantially parallel folds of the sandwich, and then disengaging the two outer folded structures from one another and from the interlayer by drawing such interlayer from between the two outer sheets. The method may be used to form filter structures illustrated in Fig. 7, and also Figs. 11 and 14 (not shown). In Fig. 7, and air filter structure comprises a sheet of malleable filter material, alternately folded in such a manner as to be concertinard to provide a number of substantially parallel folds, each fold comprising a pair of adjacent flanks j joined by a curved fold end region a or b, each flank being common to two adjacent folds, the arrangement being such that the folds with end regions a are mutually identical and define a larger area in profile than the folds with end region b which folds are also mutually identical, the folds being corrugated. The embodiment of Fig. 11 (not shown) shows an annular liquid filter with chevroned corrugations, and the embodiment of Fig. 14 (not shown) shows an annular filter with curvilinear corrugations.
