Abstract

1,148,899. Reacting epoxidized polymers with amines. MINNESOTA MINING & MFG. CO. 5 July, 1966 [6 July, 1965], No. 30211/66. Headings C3E, C3P and C3Q. [Also in Division B2] A water-soluble rubbery polymer is made by reacting a water-insoluble polymer of a conjugated diene with an epoxidizing agent and then reacting the epoxidized polymer with a water-soluble secondary amine. Suitable polymers are natural or synthetic polyisoprene, polybutadiene, and butadiene: styrene or acrylonitrile rubbers. Suitable amines are morpholine, di-methyl-, -n-propyl-, -butyl-, and ethanol - amine, N - methylbenzylamine and piperidine. The polymers may be mixed with tackifying agents such as N,N,N<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>1</SP>- tetrakis(2 - hydroxy - propyl)ethylene diamine in the production of water-activable pressure sensitive adhesives.
