Abstract

1,147,650. Vinyl benzene/elastomeric block copolymer compositions. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 1 Nov., 1966 [16 Nov., 19651, No. 48526/65. Heading C3P. A polymer of vinyl benzene is blended with 2-40% by wt. of an elastomeric block copolymer of formula A- (B-A) n where A is a polymer block having a second order transition temperature greater than 25‹ C. and a number average mol. wt. of 200-100,000, B is an elastomeric polymer block having a number average mol. wt. of 25,000-1,000,000 and a glass transition temperature below 10‹ C. and n is 1-10. The vinyl benzene polymer may be styrene or a copolymer thereof with α-methyl styrene. The block copolymer may be formed of polystyrene or poly(α-methyl styrene) (as the A block) and polybutadiene, polyisoprene or an elastomeric copolymer of ethylene and propylene (as the B block). The blend may also contain natural rubber or a synthetic rubber e.g. a copolymer of butadiene and styrene. The blends may be moulded into sheets.
