Abstract

1,159,676. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 27 Oct., 1966 [16 Nov., 1965], No. 48527/65. Heading B7C. [Also in Divisions B5 and C3] The flexible composition of which a fabricless pneumatic tyre is made comprises an elastomeric block copolymer having a general Formula A-(B-A)n where A is a polymer block having a second order transition temperature greater than 25‹ C. and a number average molecular weight in the range 200 to 100,000 and B is an elastomeric polymer block having an average molecular weight of from 25,000 to 1,000,000 and a gloss transistion temperature below 10‹ C., n being an integer of from 1 to 10. Examples of A are a vinyl benzene such as styrene or a copolymer of styrene and alkyl-styrene, and of B a polyolefine e.g. butadiene or a styrene-butadiene copolymer. The composition may also include another thermoplastic material, e.g. polystyrene, a copolymer of styrene with butadiene or isoprene, or an interpolymer of butadiene, styrene and acrylonitrile. The composition preferably has a flexured fatigue life of at least 1,000,000 flexes, a Young's modulus of at least 4.5 x 10<SP>2</SP> p.s.i. and an elongation (creep) of not more than 15% in length when subjected to a load of 100 p.s.i. of sectional area at 30‹ C. for one month.
