Abstract

1,147,492. Sound absorbing. ACOUSTICS & ARCHITECTURE Ltd. 14 March, 1968 [7 April, 1967], No. 16148/67. Heading H3U. A sound absorbing device comprises a cavity 11 bounded on each side by walls 13 except for a front face 14 which is closed by a porous structure 15 comprising a plurality of sound absorbing layers 16, 17, 18. These layers are of successively increasing acoustic impedance in the direction towards the cavity and may be formed of glass fibres, mineral wool, or of foamed polyurethane or polyester resin. A number of such devices may be mounted together to form a wall (Fig. 1, not shown). Particular frequencies may be absorbed by placing resonator tubes 21 within the cavity 11; further, additional sound absorption may be obtained by mounting in the cavity an open grid member 23.
