Abstract

1,146,506. Moulding plasterboard. GENERAL PATENT LENNART WALLEN. 4 April, 1966 [5 April, 1965], No. 14824/66. Heading B5A. [Also in Division E1] In a method of making plaster board having on each face a fibrous layer comprising cellulosic (paper stock) textile, glass, rockwool or organic man-made fibres, a layer of plaster slurry which may incorporate small amounts of fibrous material is deposited on a moving layer of watersuspended fibres (e.g. on a Foudrinier wire) and is covered by a second layer of water-suspended fibres, the excess water being removed by vacuum or by pressure rollers so that the slurry penetrates progressively into each fibrous layer. One of the fibrous layers may be reinforced by fabric or filaments, or by wires which may be prestressed. A multi-layer board, Figs. 6a-6d (not shown), comprise fibre-faced plaster boards on each side of a core, the core being of foam plastics, foam rubber, blown concrete or gypsum, cellulosic fibre, sawdust, shavings, bark waste, glass fibre, rockwool or brick or coal crush. The core may be continuous, may comprise spaced pieces, or may have openings to allow penetration by the plaster slurry during manufacture. Alternatively the core itself may comprise several layers spaced by plaster slurry whereby a building block is formed. As shown water-suspended fibres from a box 1 flow on to an endless wire 2 to form a fibrous wet-sheet whose water content is reduced by suction boxes 4 before slurry is applied at 5. The fibre-slurry sheet is partly dried by suction boxes 6 and at 7 is fed beneath a second fibrous wet-sheet from an endless wire 8. In an alternative machine, Fig. 4 (not shown), producing a composite board having a core fed from a roll (24) wet-sheets (15, 15a) are picked by endless felts (36) off cylindrical screens (32) rotating in vats of suspended fibres and partly dried by pressing rollers (13, 14). The sheet (15), may incorporate reinforcement from a roll (40) and additives from a container (42), and may have its edges turned up by folding means, Fig. 5 (not shown) to adhere to the upper sheet (15a). As an alternative to the edge-folding means the slurry can be retained by rubber or plastics bands covered with fibrous material.
