Stable physiologically acceptable penicillin salts have the general Formula (I) in which R is a phenyl-alkyl, phenyl α-amino alkyl, phenoxy-alkyl, phenylthioalkyl, phenoxyalkyl substituted in the benzene nucleus by one or more alkyl-mercapto groups, phenylthioalkyl substituted in the benzene nucleus by one or more halogens, dialkoxyphenyl, thienyloxyalkyl or 5-alkyl-3-phenyl-isoxazolyl; R<SP>1</SP> is H, halogen, alkoxy, aralkoxy, unsubstituted or substituted phenoxy, NO 2 , NH 2 or OH; and R<SP>2</SP> is H, halogen, alkoxy, aralkoxy, unsubstituted phenoxy or substituted phenoxy; the alkyl group above having C 1 to C 4 carbon atoms. The salts are prepared by reacting (a) the appropriate penicillanic acid with the appropriate cinnamyl amine (prepared according to Specification 1,046,506) in an organic solvent, or (b) a salt of the penicillanic acid with a salt of the base in aqueous solution. Examples are given of the cinnamyl-amine, 4-nitrocinnamylamine, 4-chloro-cinnamyl-amine, 2,4-dichlorocinnamylamine and 3 - methoxy - cinnamylamine salts of phenacetylamido-penicillanic acid, 4 - methylmercapto - phenoxyacetamidopenicillanic acid, phenoxyacetamido-penicillanic acid, 2,6-dimethoxy-benzoylamido-penicillanic acid and 5-methyl-3-phenylisoxazoloyl penicillanic acid. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise a penicillin salt of Formula (I) and a carrier.
