Abstract

1,145,375. Prilling wax mixtures. CHEMICAL & INDUSTRIAL CORP. 4 April, 1966, No. 14878/66. Heading B5A. [Also in Divisions C1 and C2] A molten mixture of 60% finely divided urea with 40 degrees wax, of melting point 135- 145‹ F., is supplied from a heated and agitated tank to a rotated cylindrical or frusto-conical basket 11 at the top of a tower 1, either via a spout 15 or through holes 20 along a hollow basket rotating shaft 12, whereby rotation of the basket 11 forces the melt out through the side wall 19 of the basket, which is formed of wire cloth of 11 to 20 meshes per inch, to form prills which solidify in falling down the tower 1 through a counter-current of cooling air. The bottom of the tower is provided with an outlet 4 into which a conical gas pervious structure 6 leads, consisting of wire cloth or wool felt and which may also include a sheet metal annulus 25 provided with openings, whereby cooling air or other gas is admitted to the tower from a blower 7. Shaft 12 is preferably driven from an electric motor 14, via an adjustable speed reducer 13. The basket is rotated at 60 to 200 r.p.m. The tower diameter is 7 to 25 ft. and the prills fall 15 to 60 ft. to produce prills at least 87% whereof pass a 10-mesh screen but are retained on a 20-mesh screen.
