Abstract

1,144,726. Wells. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 12 Sept., 1967 [14 Sept., 1966 (2)], No. 41622/67. Heading E1F. In a method of treating a subsurface formation penetrated by a well a solution of an activating agent is injected into the well followed by injecting a solution of a polyvalent metal compound, a reducing agent and water which displaces the first solution and deposits a metallic layer on the grains of the formation. The activating agents are conventional ones used for making materials susceptible to metallisation e.g. palladium compounds, stannous compounds, or hydrazine. An acid pretreatment may enhance the activation. Oil and connate-water may be displaced before the treatment. Sequestering, surface active and buffer agents may be incorporated into the treatment fluids.
