Abstract

1,144,611. Flail mowers. BOMFORD & EVERSHED Ltd., D. R. BOMFORD and J. V. FOX. 1 Feb., 1968 [3 Feb., 1967], No. 5230/67. Heading A1F. A rotary implement comprises flail-like attachments 13, 14 yieldingly connected by means of a coupling element to a rotary shaft 10, the coupling element comprising two spaced limbs 15, 16 which are releasably retained in pairs of holes along the length of the shaft. The spiced limbs 15, 16 of the U-shaped coupling member are inserted in holes 18, 19 and the end of limb 15, which is longer than limb 16, in hole 18a, this end being bent in the opposite direction to that of rotation. The end of limb 16 abuts against the inner surface 30 of the shaft. The coupling is released by straightening limb 15. Other embodiments include securing the coupling element by means of a nut screwed to the projecting end of limb 15, both ends of the coupling element passing through the shaft and secured by bending or a nut or the two ends of the coupling element being bent inwards for engagement in aligned holes (23), (24) extending diametrically through the shaft, Fig. 2 (not shown). The shaft may be tubular and have a polygonal (e.g. square) cross-section. The pairs of holes may be placed so that the flail-like attachments are helically arranged.
