Abstract
1,144,500. Regenerating spent cracking catalysts. CONSOLIDATION COAL CO. 21 July, 1966 [30 July, 1965], No. 32728/65. Heading BIE. Spent zinc halide catalyst from a hydrocracking polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons process and contaminated with ZnS, ammoniates of zinc halide and organic residues is regenerated by mixing the spent catalyst with an aromatic solvent and water to from an aqueous inorganic phase and an organic phase, separating the inorganic phase from the organic phase, removing water from the inorganic phase and removing at least some of the ammonia from the inorganic phase. In lieu of water aqueous hydrochloric acid may be used to separate the catalyst into two phases.
