[Also in Division H1] A flash discharge lamp 1 is supported at spaced intervals along its length by support members 4, 4<SP>11</SP> extending to a surrounding transparent guard tube 3 which is open at both ends to provide a duet for cooling air. The support members are preferably web-shaped and extend radially, and are preferably secured to the guard tube. Each end of the guard tube is provided with a socket member 5, 6 through which the leads to the lamp extend.
