Abstract

1,144,148. Valves. L. J. MILLER. 13 May, 1966 [17 May, 1965; 17 March, 1966], No. 21268/66. Heading F2V. A valve with hot and cold water inlets 18, 19 extending through a flat surface 21 into a chamber 35 has a control disc of plastics material 20 with spaced openings 22, 23 movable into registry with the inlets on rotation or reciprocation in a single plane by a handle 54, the disc being urged against the flat surface by yieldable sealing means 33. The handle has a ball 46 of plastics material mounted in a spherical seat 47 to form a universal pivot and a second ball 50 with pins 51 to form a driving connection with slots 53 in the disc, rotation being limited by ears 75 engaging the sides of a cavity 76 in a plastic sealing member 25 located in the body 13 by a projection 28. The inlets are provided with spring-loaded sealing rings 38 of rubber or other resilient material while the outlet 10 has a tube 60 to return water through a passage 61 to a rinse tube (not shown). In a modified construction, the handle is provided with a member of inverted cup shape containing a spherical face to engage a corresponding face on the sealing member. Flats on the spindle and member prevent relative rotation between them so that the pivotal and rotary movements take place between the spherical surfaces, the handle being connected by a transverse pivot pin with the control disc. Rotation of the latter is limited by ears on the cup-shaped member co-operating with flat faces on the sealing member.
