Abstract
1,143,699. Counters. NATIONAL SCREW & MFG. CO. 10 Oct., 1967, No. 46278/67. Heading G4D. Work operations of a machine are detected by a strain gauge, the resulting pulses being distinguished from noise before being applied to a counter. The strain gauge 10 reacts to all vibrations but high frequency noise is smoothed out by capacity 24. The remaining signals are amplified at 16 and applied to a threshold squaring network 27. A workpiece builds up the voltage in integrator 31 until a threshold switch 33 such as a Zener diode triggers a monostable multivibrator 34. An electromechanical counter 37 is thereby operated and a shorting switch 35 is simultaneously operated to discharge the integrator 31. The time constant of the multivibrator 34 is chosen to suit the frequency of the machine so that the switch 35 cannot open until half the time before the next expected work blow has elapsed. Any larger spurious pulses applied to integrator 31 are therefore insufficient to operate the counter.
