Abstract
1,143,600. Welding by fusion. MUREX WELDING PROCESSES Ltd. 29 Sept., 1967 [12 July, 1966], No. 31183/66. Heading B3R. [Also in Division C7] A continuous arc welding electrode for use without shielding gas or flux consists of a tubular mild steel sheath constituting 50-85% by weight of the electrode and enclosing the following core composition:- 1%-30% titania 10-40% fluoride, e.g. calcium fluoride 2-12% aluminium 10-30% titania 10-40% fluoride, e.g. calcium fluoride 2-12% aluminium 0-3% titanium, e.g. ferro-titanium (20- 45% Ti) 0-3% zirconium, e.g. ferro-zirconium (25- 50% Zr) 1-10% arc stabilizers 0-5% manganese, e.g. ferro-manganese (75- 90% Mn) 0-8% nickel balance iron. The total of aluminium, titanium and zirconium is at least 2À5% of the core and 0À8% of the electrode. In a modification, the aluminium at least in part is a coating on the sheath but preferably it is present as a powder or wire in the core and may be in the form of a ferro-alloy. Specified arc stabilizers are calcium carbonate, potassium oxalate, potassium titanate and potassium minerals such as felspar. The weld deposits produced by the electrode contain 0À2-0À9% titanium, 0À1-0À6% aluminium. Deposits are specified within the following ranges:- 0À26-0À35% aluminium 0À27-0À3% manganese 0À57-0À61% titanium 0À08-2% nickel balance substantially iron. 0-3% titanium, e.g. ferro-titanium (20- 45% Ti) 0-3% zirconium, e.g. ferro-zirconium (25- 50% Zr) 1-10% arc stabilizers 0-5% manganese, e.g. ferro-manganese (75- 90% Mn) 0-8% nickel balance iron. 0À26-0À35% aluminium 0À27-0À3% manganese 0À57-0À61% titanium 0À08-2% nickel balance substantially iron.
