[Also in Division H1] Compounds of general formula or wherein R=phenyl, substituted phenyl, naphthyl, anthraquinonyl or phenyl benzoxazolyl; R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 =H, NO 2 , halogen or alkyl and R 5 and R 6 =R, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl; are prepared by the condensation of an amine with phthalic anhydride or phthaloyl chloride. The following compounds are prepared: [4-(5- chloro - benzoxazolyl - 2 -) - phenyl] -phthalimide, m.p. 320‹ C.; N - [4 - (benzoxazoyl - 2)-phenyl]- phthalimide, m.p. 250‹ C.; N-phenyl-3-nitrophthalimide, m.p. 136‹ C.; N,N<SP>1</SP>-tetraphenylphthaldiamide, m.p. 240-242‹ C.; N-2- anthraquinone phthalimide, m.p. 285‹ C.; N- m - phenylene - bis - phthalimide, m.p. 313‹ C. and N,N<SP>1</SP> - dimethyl - N,N<SP>1 </SP>- diphenyl - phthaldiamide, m.p. 181-183‹ C.
