Abstract

1,143,219. Hydrolysis of amylose. FMC CORP. 23 May, 1966, No. 22819/66. Heading C3U. Starch containing at least 50% amylose is hydrolysed in an acidic medium to produce a partially - degraded water - insoluble material, which is then mechanically disintegrated to obtain a finely-divided product capable of forming a stable dispersion in a liquid. Hydrochloric acid is specified for hydrolysis, suitably of 0À01-2À5N for 1-30 mins. under reflux. The partially degraded material may be washed prior to disintegration, and may be disintegrated dry, or in the presence of the dispersing medium, e.g. water, a sugar solution, a polyol or an alcohol. The dispersion may be a gel, and remains stable over a period of months.
