Abstract
1,142,372. Crying dolls. BAKELITE XYLONITE Ltd. 17 May, 1967 [17 May, 1966], No. 21851/66. Heading A6S. A crying device in a doll comprises a hollow liquid container 7 mounted in the head directly behind the open mouth 4 by a rigid liquid-supply conduit 9 connected thereto and also by tear-tubing 15 permanently attached to the eye-sockets 5 of the doll by moulding material of the head defining said sockets around the relevant ends of this tubing, said conduit and tear tubing communicating with the interior of said container, which also has an air inlet 19 additional to the connections to said conduit and tubing. The head of the doll may be made by slush moulding with the tear tubing in position (see Fig. 7, not shown). In operation, the container is filled by "feeding" the doll through the mouth with water, e.g. from a feeding bottle. The mouth is then sealed, as by a comforter, and the doll is squeezed, whereupon water is expelled from the tubes 15 simulating tears. Excess water which overflows through tube 19 may, on tipping the doll, be released through hole 21 to simulate "wetting".
