Abstract

1,142,316. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 18 May, 1966, No. 22021/66. Heading H1D. In a triode valve the grid-anode capacitance is increased by the provision of a vacuum capacitor formed by the coaxial arrangement of a cylindrical portion of a grid support 16, a cylindrical shield 27 surrounding and joined to the grid support 16 and a skirt 28 depending from anode 3 and extending between the shield 27 and the cylindrical portion of grid support 16. In the valve shown, the anode 3 with cooling means 4 forms part of the envelope and surrounds the grid 17 and directly heated coiled cathode 10. The cage-like portion 18 of the grid, which is photo-etched from a sheet to produce the pattern of apertures and formed into a hollow cylinder spot welded at 21, is supported at its lower end 22 by welding to a conical grid member 16 which is attached through grid support ring 15 and metal collar 7 to grid connecting ring 14. Ring 15 also supports cylindrical shield 27 which overlaps with skirt 28 so that the vacuum capacitor extends coaxially with the insulating envelope member 15. Posts 8, 9 attached to pins 2 support cathode and a sapphire extension 24 above top part 12 of centre post 9 supports slotted plate 19 and cap 20 which are part of the grid.' Titanium getter plates 13 are secured to the post 12.
