A programme timer for washing machines, for example, comprising a plurality of cams 2 on a shaft 1 each co-operating with a changeover contact set 4, 5, 6, has each contact set mounted on a respective insulating plate 7, 7<SP>1</SP>, 7<SP>11</SP> ... 7111, and these plates are held in assembly by rods 8 and 9 which also secure metal end plates 22 and 23. The rod 8 passes through close-fit holes in the insulating plates, but the rod 9 passes through holes elongated to permit expansion and contraction of the plates in a direction at right angles to the line of action of the contacts. The contact-set components are fitted in recesses and/or on bosses, such as 11, 14, 21, and held in place by the assembly under pressure of springs 24, leaving a very small gap a between plates 7, 7<SP>1</SP>, 7<SP>11</SP>. . . 7<SP>111</SP>. A somewhat larger gap b is provided between the end plate 22 and final insulating plate 7<SP>111</SP>. The moving contact arm 17 and fixed contact arm 19 are pivoted in extensions of respective terminal members 10 and 16 and resiliently urged by respective springs 18 and 20.
