Abstract

1,141,988. Bearings. TEXTRON Inc. 10 May, 1966, No. 20691/66. Heading F2A. A rolling bearing includes an annular seal 30 between inner and outer races 14, 16, the seal having a substantially axial portion 56 which engages a face 40 on the outer race 16 and a substantially radial portion 48 engaging an abutment face 52 on the inner race, a space 68 being formed radially inwardly of portion 56, so that portion 56 may be radially deflected to allow passage of excess lubricant. In Fig. 2, two seals 30, 32 enclose a chamber 22 containing balls 17. Lubricant is injected into chamber 22 via fitting 34 and excess lubricant escapes from the seals. Before positioning of the seal in the bearing, portion 48 is cylindrical and portion 56 extends radially from it (Figs. 3,6, not shown). In assembly the seal is pushed axially along a fixture (72, Fig. 5, not shown) into its final deformed position (Fig. 2).
