Abstract

1,141,013. Photo-copiers. ADDRESSOGRAPH-MULTIGRAPH CORP. March 1, 1966 [March 16, 1965], No.8939/66. Headings G2A and G2H. Copying machine for producing an image on a copy sheet of a sheet original, the image differing in size from the original, comprises illuminating and exposure stations through which the original and copy sheets are passed respectively at a relative speed dependent upon the relative size of the original and image and at which the original is illuminated and a different sized image thereof is projected on to the copy sheet at the exposure station, a delay mechanism being provided to alter the relative time of arrival of the leading edges of the sheets at the exposure and illuminating station to control the position of the image on the copy sheet. An electrostatic copier for producing images of reduced size, the original and copy sheets are transported along parallel paths by coaxial pairs of rollers driven at the same angle velocity and having different diameters in accordance with the reduction in image size, the rollers being changed when the image reduction is changed. An inserted original is initially transported by rotating rollers 56, 52 until it trips a switch 98 which stops rotation of the rollers by de-energizing a clutch (168). After a predetermined time controlled by a time delay relay 182, clutch 168 is re-energized and brake 166 de-energized so that the original sheet is transported past a station 36 at which it is illuminated by a lamp 37 through filters 94, and then ejected. Tripping of switch 98 also energizes a clutch (96) for rollers 62, 66 which feed a copy sheet from a supply chamber 30 on nylon filament guides through charging, exposure, developing and fixing stations; the charging station 40 comprises corona discharge wires 108, 110 which apply a charge to both surfaces of the sheet, the area charge being adjustable by shields (114) - (120) and (114a) - (120a) controlled by rods (121); at the exposure station (42) light from the illuminated original is projected on to the copy sheet by an assembly 44 comprising perpendicular mirrors 128, 134 and a variable focal length lens 132.
