Abstract
1,140,773. Bearings. GLACIER METAL CO. Ltd. 7 Sept., 1967, No. 40969/67. Heading F2A. In a tilting-pad bearing, each pad is pivotally mounted on a carrier-ring, the latter being supported by means of at least one thrusttransmitting chamber positioned between said carrier-ring and a support, the or each thrusttransmitting chamber having axially displaced end walls, one being adjacent said carrier-ring and the other being adjacent said support and having a flexible metallic wall or a pair of flexible metallic walls, the or each chamber containing fluid therein. In an embodiment each pad 7, Fig. 2, having a rib 7A, pivots on a carrierring 6 and is retained by means of a screw 8, a head 8A of which is received by a slot 7B in the pad 7. The carrier-ring 6 and a ring 9 together form two annular recesses which, when closed by means of annular outer and inner flexible side walls 12 and 13 of sheet metal, form, together with a clearance 11E provided between the barrier-ring 6 and the ring 9, a thrust-transmitting chamber 11. The walls 12 and 13 are each welded to the rings 6 and 9 and the latter is supported by a main support 1. In modifications the ring 9, Figs. 4 and 4 (not shown), and the support 1 are each formed in two approximately semi-circular parts, two thrust-transmitting chambers are formed and a pair of flexible side walls is provided; and flexible side walls 25, Fig. 6, of U-shaped cross-section are provided and are additionally secured to the carrier-ring 6 and the ring 9 by means of reinforcing rings 28.
