In a pneumatic tyre reinforced only by bead wires 3 and carcass plies 4 of parallel cords 5 lying in radial planes beneath the sidewalls and at an acute angle to the circumferential in the crown, the cord angle α and axial width z of the cords in the crown are increased on tyre inflation, but preferably the tyre external diameter is unchanged. The angle α may be up to 30 degrees and may increase on inflation by up to 4 degrees.
