Abstract
1,140,680. Fluid logic device. ELLIOTT BROS (LONDON) Ltd. 17 May, 1966 [18 May, 1965], No. 20895/65. Heading G4P. A fluid logic device comprises three input jets 6, 7, 8 directed towards a single point D, such that all the jets do not lie in the same plane. Seven output passages 10-16 are provided such that an output signal occurs in one of the passages depending on the seven different combinations of jets. As shown, the jets 6, 7, 8 are arranged at right-angles to each other and directed towards the corner of a cube which has been cut away. The output channels then lie upon the side, diagonals of the sides and a diagonal of the cube. The device may be used for summing two binary digits in which jets 6 and 7 represent the nth digit of the two numbers and jet 8 represents the carry digits from the previous stage. Thus the outputs representing " 1 " can appear in any one of the channels 10, 11, 12 and 16 while outputs representing a " carry " can appear in any one of channels 13, 14, 15 and 16. The outputs 10, 11, 12 and 16 are connected to a common output channel 17 while the channels 13, 14, 15 and 16 are connected to a common output channel 18 and these two channels are connected as control signals of two fluid amplifiers to provide an output depending on these signals and control or inhibit means actuating the other control signals of the amplifier.
