Abstract

1,140,390. Pipe couplings; locking nuts; valves. L. ADAMS Ltd. 12 June, 1967 [5 Aug., 1966], No. 35203/66. Headings F2G, F2H and F2V. A quick-release coupling for connecting a valve 3 to a jerkin in oxygen supply systems of aircrew members comprising a flanged nut 9 rotatably mounted on a spigot 6 of the valve and adapted to engage a threaded flanged member 16 secured to a jerkin 22, and a locking sleeve 12 mounted on the nut and resiliently biased by springs 14 against the flanged member, is characterized in that the sleeve and flanged member are provided with co-operating serrations 15 and 17 forming a freewheel ratchet mechanism allowing relative rotation of the nut and flanged member in the direction of engagement but preventing relative rotation in the direction of disengagement until the sleeve is pulled back against the spring bias to disengage the co-operating serrations. A flange of an immersion suit 19 is slip fitted over the flanged member and is prevented from inadvertent removal by projections 11 on the nut, which extend into slots 25 in the sleeve, Fig. 3 (not shown), and bear against said immersion suit flange. Seals 24 and 21 effect sealing of the coupling and immersion suit flange respectively. Specification 862,506 is referred to.
