[Also in Division F2] - A resilient unit for incorporation In a drill string comprises fittings 10, 34 for connection to the drill collar and bit respectively, a resilient corrugated pipe 17 joining the fittings to permit axial movement therebetween, and a tube 40 connected to one fitting and slidable over the other to prevent the unit bending. A projection. 51 on the tube prevents the loss of the fitting 34 and the bit should the pipe fracture. The annulus between the pipe and tube may be filled with lubricant, and the interior of the pipe may be protected from the drilling fluid by a pipe 81. The pipe 17 may be formed from rings brazed or welded together or it may be of integral construction,
