Electric stoves.-Resistance wires d are supported beneath a perforated hot-plate by pairs of mica strips e, e<1> wedged in recesses in the ribs c by mica strips g, the ribs c being formed with flanges h to protect the supports from any liquid which may fall on the plate. The strips e, e<1> may be formed, as shown in Fig. 5, with holes i and slots k to receive the wires, the slots passing either to the lower or upper edges of the strips. In another arrangement, shown in Fig. 7, the strips e, e<1> are formed with slots k with rounded ends k<2> which, when the strips are placed together, form openings for the wires. Instead of a continuous piece of mica for each strip e, e<1>, g, several short lengths placed end to end may be used. The resistance wire may be wound spirally and the convolutions may be spaced apart to different extents at different parts of the coil as described in Specification 4672/09, and tappings may be taken off to provide for various degrees of heat.
