Abstract

1,139,510. Polyurethanes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 25 July, 1966 [9 Aug., 1965], No. 34009/65. Headings C3C and C3R. Polyurethanes are formed from polyols and polyisocyanates in the presence of a tertiary amine of formula The two N atoms are attached to the ring in the 2 or 4 and 2<SP>1</SP> or 4<SP>1</SP> positions respectively of the cyclohexyl rings which may be substituted with one or more C 1-4 alkyl groups. R 1 and R 2 , which may be the same or different, may be C 1-4 alkyl groups or taken together may form a divalent alkylene group which together with the N atom forms a heterocyclic ring. R 3 and R 4 , which may be the same or different, represent hydrogen, C 1-4 alkyl radicals or taken together with the central carbon atom may form a cycloalkyl ring. From 0.01 to 5% by wt. of tertiary amine, based on the wt. of polyol may be used. The tertiary amine may be used in the form of a salt with a weak acid. It may also be used in conjunction with an organometallic compound, e.g. stannous octoate, dibutyl tin dilaurate or lead octoate. The example relates to the use of bis-(4-dimethylamino cyclohexyl) methane. Other compounds referred to are: bis - (4 - diethylaminocyclohexyl) methane, 2<SP>1</SP>,2<SP>1</SP>- bis - (4 - dimethylaminocyclohexyl) propane, 1<SP>1</SP>,1<SP>1</SP> - bis - (4 - dimethylaminocyclohexyl) cyclohexane, bis - (3 - methyl - 4 - dimethylaminocyclohexyl) methane, bis - (2 - methyl-4- dimethylaminocyclohexyl) methane and bis- (2,5 - dimethyl - 4 - dimethylaminocyclohexyl) methane.
