A device for sampling milk comprises an inlet pipe 1 extending upwardly through a base 2 and a conical member 12 which is covered by a bowl 4, a cap 8 rotatable on the inlet pipe 1 so as to distribute the milk over the conical member, a sector-like chamber 15 at the lower end of the conical member for collecting a fixed and known proportion of the milk flowing over the conical member, and a measuring cylinder 19 for measuring the quantity of milk collected in the chamber 15. The cap 8 is provided with a stem 9 having helical vanes 10 which cause the cap to be rotated under the flow of the incoming milk; the cap is adapted to rise under the pressure of the milk so that it taps the bowl 4 and thereby gives an audible indication that milk is flowing. The milk collected in the measuring chamber may be drained off into a container for analysis via a valve 20 or, by operation of the same valve, be returned via a pipe 22, into the inlet pipe 1. The device is mounted on a plate 24 and may be adjusted to a true vertical position by means of a plumb bob 25.
