Abstract

113,912. Birrell, W., Birrell, J., and Cavenaugh, R. A. July 27, 1917. Microphones.-Both electrodes of a microphone are mounted opposite each other on the diaphragm in such a manner that no relative movement occurs between them; while the space between the electrodes is partly filled with carbon granules. The diaphragm is mounted in a rubber ring which is loosely housed. In the arrangement shown the diaphragm 7 is dished at the centre to form a granule chamber 10 which is closed by a mica disk 22. One electrode 13 is mounted on the diaphragm 7 and the other upon the disk 22; while the chamber 10 is partly filled with granules 31. The diaphragm 7 is mounted in a rubber ring 8 and its movement is limited by felt blocks 30 secured to the back plate 3.
