Abstract
113,848. Tindall, A. S. March 14, 1917. Renewable calks.-Reversible calks are so formed as to be capable of being driven into position or removed in a direction at right-angles to the face of the shoe. The calk shown in Fig. 4 is formed with two parts c<1>, c<2>, the part c<1> serving as a wearing-part when the part c<2> is driven into the shoe, and vice versa. The parts are preferably slightly tapered and are driven into rectangular openings in the shoe. Flanges c' are provided for engaging the face of the shoe, Both the parts may be of cruciform section and be formed with sharp ends, or as shown in Fig. 5, one of the parts may consist of a plain block d. The calk shown in Fig. 7 consists of a block d formed with parts c<1>, c<2> either of which may be driven into the shoe. The block may be formed with a plane wearing-face d<3> and one or more sharp edges d<1>. In removing the calks, the point of a tool is placed in a groove x. Fig. 13 shows a cover h which can be driven over the parts c<1>, c<2>, or d, Figs. 4 and 5, and is formed with a plane end h<1> and edges h<2>. The cover can be attached, in the position shown or be reversed if it is desired to use the end h<1> as a wearing-surface. The calk shown in Fig. 14 is formed with four wings k<1> - - k<4>, any of which can be driven into an opening b<2> in the shoe a.
