Abstract

1,138,451. Cleaning windows. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON-HOUSTON HOTCHKISS BRANDT. 11 Feb., 1966 [12 Feb., 1965; 2 June, 1965], No. 6246/66. Heading A4F. [Also in Division G2] A device for protecting a surface of a transparent body, for example the front surface of a camera objective or a transparent port, comprises a casing B which shrouds the said surface and has a perforated end wall in the form of a grid or lattice G, a supply of protective gas to the casing providing a pressure head so that an outflow of gas from the casing through the apertured wall is maintained. The device may be attached to the objective mount of a television camera for observing the surface and temperature of the contents of a furnace. The gas under pressure passes into the casing B through a tube T. A water jacket E cools the casing B and also protects the camera. The pressure within the casing B is such as to produce non- turbulent flow through the perforated wall and yet prevent the intrusion of corrosive and harmful matter.
