[Also in Division A4] In an angularly adjustable back rest assembly for a vehicle seat, a lost-motion connection is provided, between a rotary handle 10 and the shaft 6<SP>1</SP> of a stay rod 6, having a screw-threaded sleeve 8 fixed thereto, so that the longitudinal motion of the shaft 6<SP>1</SP> is not transmitted to the handle 10. Handle 10 rotates the shaft 6<SP>1</SP> and sleeve 8, to effect fine adjustment of the inclination of the back-rest 4, by means of a pin 24, engaging slot 25 and screw threads 8<SP>1</SP> meshing with projections 11<SP>1</SP>, in U- shaped nut 11. On raising the handle 10 to bring the screw threads 8<SP>1</SP> away from projections 11<SP>1</SP>, the shaft 6<SP>1</SP> is free to slide within the tube 6<SP>11</SP> to allow the backrest 4 to take up any desired inclination.
