Abstract

1,138,395. Cynanine dyes. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 28 Feb., 1966 [1 March, 1965], No. 8659/66. Heading C4P. [Also in Division G2] The invention relates to cyanine dyes of the formula wherein Z represents the non-metallic atoms required to complete a naphthothiazole on benzoselenazole nucleus, R 1 -R 3 represent alkyl, sulphoalkyl or carboxyalkyl which may be in alkali metal salt form, alkoxyalkyl, cyanoalkyl, or substituted or unsubstituted phenyl or naphthyl, R 4 is H, Cl, Br or I except that it may not be H when Z completes a benzoselenazole nucleus; R 5 is Cl, Br or I and X an acid anion or anhydro forms of such dyes when X is OH and R 1 , R 2 or R 3 are carboxy- or sulpho-alkyl. The dyes are prepared by the usual condensation methods. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 979,251.
