Abstract

1,137,620. Neckties. H. DAVIDOWITZ and J. DAVIDOWITZ. 14 Nov., 1967, No. 51745/67. Heading A3V. A necktie is manufactured by a method including fabric piece cutting, assembling, folding, straightening, steaming and joining operations, in which the steaming operation is carried out after, or continuously with, the straightening operation. The steam treatment is preferably carried out using a steam iron in close proximity with but not touching the fabric. The tie may be made from a long base, centre section, and short base pieces made up into a basic fabric piece which is folded over reinforcing neckband pieces. The straightening is achieved by applying a tension force to the fabric sufficient to remove all wrinkles and undulations formed during the folding operation but not so great as to disturb the normal unstressed condition of the fibres of the fabric.
