Abstract

1,137,512. Turbines. ESCHER WYSS A.G. Jan.7, 1966 [Jan.12, 1965], No.889/66. Heading F1T. In a steam or gas turbine having a double casing arrangement, an axially extending portion 4 of the inner casing 2 is mounted within the outer casing 1 with axial freedom for thermal expansion by a support comprising a thin frusto-conical member 21 of low thermal conductivity austenitic material bolted to a cylindrical ring 27 which is connected to a ring 16 forming part of the portion 4 of the inner casing 2. The member 21 is welded to a ring 12, the latter forming with ring 16 and a sealing ring 17 having concentric parts 18, 19 a partition dividing the intermediate space between the casings 1, 2 into inlet and outlet side regions 8, 9 respectively. The space is filled with heat insulating material 10. Ring 12 is centered within the casing 1 by cotters 11 and lugs 13 which in turn centre ring 16 by means of further cotters 15. The casing portion 4 is centred also at its upstream end by lugs 25 with freedom for axial movement. Further location for the inner casing is provided by lugs 23 extending from a compressor casing 24. The concentric parts 18, 19 of sealing ring 17 have a corrugated seal 20 provided therebetween, part 19 being secured to ring 16 and axially movable therewith. Rings 12, 16, 27 and member 21 are all diametrically split to permit assembly. Longitudinal slots 29 are formed in ring 27 and holes may also be formed in member 21 to reduce thermal expansion. The turbine stator blade assembly forms part of the casing portion 4 and comprises spaced one-piece rings 32 between which are bolted diametrically split guide blade rings 30. Axial cotters (39), Fig. 2 (not shown), extend over adjacent rings 30, 32.
