Abstract

1,136,946. 16α-Halo-pregnanes. E. R. SQUIBB & SONS Inc. 11 Jan., 1966 [28 Jan., 1965], No. 1240/66. Heading C2U. The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein X is halogen and R is hydrogen or C 1-7 -alkyl, the alkyl group having α-configuration when the 5,6 position is saturated, and their preparation by reaction of the corresponding 16α-hydroxy- or 16,17-dehydro-pregnane with a hydrogen halide, optionally in the presence of a quinone to effect simultaneous 5,6- dehydrogenation. The compounds of the invention have progestational, anti-aldosterone, anticorticoid and anti-estrogenic acitivity.
